Authorities recover body of Arizona woman who went missing in Grand Canyon after flash flood

The body of Chenoa Nickerson, a 33-year-old woman from Gilbert, Arizona, who went missing after a flash flood in Grand Canyon National Park, was recovered on Sunday. According to park rangers, a group rafting on the Colorado River discovered her body around 11:30 a.m. Nickerson had been swept into Havasu Creek near its confluence with the Colorado River on Thursday around 1:30 p.m. when a sudden flash flood struck. She was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. Her body was retrieved by rangers and transported by helicopter to the rim of the canyon, where it was then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation. In a heartfelt statement, Nickerson’s family expressed their deep sorrow and gratitude for the search efforts, stating, "Our hearts are heavy with grief...Chenoa’s light will forever be a part of all of us."
