Boeing Grounds 777-9 Test Planes in Latest Setback
SUMMARY
Boeing has paused test flights of its 777-9 aircraft after discovering an issue with a critical structural component that connects the engine to the plane's body during routine maintenance on one of the four test planes. Boeing is replacing the part and investigating all test planes, with flights to resume when the issue is resolved. This setback adds to the already delayed 777X series, which includes the 777-9, a large, twin-aisle aircraft designed for long-haul international routes. Originally, the 777-9 was expected to begin deliveries in 2021, but now Boeing anticipates first deliveries next year. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been informed of the issue, and Boeing will keep the agency updated on its findings.
