Defense Secretary Austin says the US will provide $2.3 billion more in military aid to Ukraine
SUMMARY
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced an additional $2.3 billion in U.S. security assistance for Ukraine, including anti-tank weapons, interceptors, and munitions for Patriot and other air defense systems. This aid responds to Ukraine’s pleas for help against Russian forces advancing in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with Austin at the Pentagon for the announcement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy alleged that Russia dropped over 800 glide bombs in the past week and urged for the easing of restrictions on Western weapons to target Russian military sites, including aircraft carrying these bombs.
