Derek Chauvin Transferred to Fed Prison in Texas
SUMMARY
Derek Chauvin, the ex-Minneapolis police officer imprisoned for the alleged killing George Floyd, has been transferred from an Arizona federal prison to the low-security Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Big Spring, Texas. This move follows Chauvin's near-fatal stabbing by an inmate at FCI Tucson in November 2023, where he was serving a 21-year federal sentence and a 22 1/2-year state sentence. The inmate who attacked Chauvin, a former gang leader, targeted him due to his notoriety and now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder. Additionally, Thomas Lane, another former Minneapolis officer involved in Floyd's death, was released from a federal prison in Colorado after serving part of his three-year sentence for aiding and abetting manslaughter.
