Dramatic rescue of man and his dog from sinking sailboat during Hurricane Helene
SUMMARY
The Coast Guard rescued a sailor and his dog stranded in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday as Hurricane Helene approached Florida's coast. The sailor's 36-foot sailboat had become disabled and started taking on water, leaving the pair in immediate danger. As the storm barreled toward land, the Coast Guard swiftly responded to the distress call. "Conditions were deteriorating rapidly, and we knew we had to act fast," said Petty Officer John Parker. A helicopter crew was deployed, successfully hoisting both the sailor and his dog to safety before the worst of the storm hit.
