Ex-Hochul and Cuomo aide, husband acted as foreign agents for China: bombshell indictment
SUMMARY
Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and her husband, Chris Hu, were arrested on charges of secretly acting as agents for the Chinese government. Prosecutors allege Sun, 41, used her positions in state government to block Taiwanese representatives from meeting with New York officials and alter state messaging to align with Chinese interests. In return, she received millions of dollars and other benefits, including event tickets, employment for her cousin, and delicacies from a Chinese government official’s chef. Hu, 40, faces related charges, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud. The arrests followed an FBI search of their multi-million dollar Long Island home. Sun was dismissed from her role in March 2023 after evidence of misconduct surfaced. She is accused of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering, among other charges.
