Fiend accused of burning woman to death on NYC subway is illegal migrant from Guatemala who sneaked into US after he was deported
SUMMARY
The Guatemalan man who was arrested for allegedly setting a woman on fire on an NYC subway, resulting in her death, has been confirmed to be an illegal alien. Deported in 2018 after crossing the Arizona border illegally, he later reentered the country undetected and lived in various taxpayer-funded shelters in New York City. By April 2023, he was staying at a Days Inn on 36th Street, converted into a shelter, and later gave an address at another shelter on Randall’s Island. On Dec. 22, 2024, he was caught on surveillance footage calmly watching the sleeping victim burn on the F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station. Dramatic video shows him walking away before police arrested him at the scene. He remains in custody, with prosecutors awaiting autopsy results to determine if murder charges will follow. Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez called the act depraved, vowing justice and emphasizing the need for subway safety.
