Man Rescued from Sinking Ship on Lake Michigan
SUMMARY
On Memorial Day, a man was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard just before his sailboat completely sank in Lake Michigan. After receiving a distress call, crews from the Coast Guard Grand Haven Station and a Traverse City helicopter responded. The man was found clinging to the back of his sinking sailboat, with the bow already submerged. He was pulled to safety just as the boat went under. A 25-second video released by the Coast Guard on Friday shows the man swimming towards the Coast Guard vessel, using a rope thrown to him for assistance. The depth at the sinking site is reported to be 300 feet.
