Microsoft hits back at Delta after the airline said last month's tech outage cost it $500 million
SUMMARY
Microsoft is teaming up with cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike to challenge Delta Air Lines' claims that they caused a major technology outage and subsequent flight cancellations last month. Delta's CEO, Ed Bastian, has attributed the $500 million in losses to issues stemming from a CrowdStrike upgrade and Microsoft's Windows systems. In response, Microsoft lawyer Mark Cheffo stated that Delta's allegations are “incomplete, false, misleading, and damaging,” and pointed out that Delta’s key IT systems are likely managed by other tech firms. Cheffo also questioned why other airlines managed to recover more swiftly. Delta, which has invested billions in IT, has not commented further. Both CrowdStrike and Microsoft claimed Delta rejected their offers to assist during the outage, and Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella’s email to Bastian went unanswered.
