Officials ID 4 victims killed in Apalachee HS shooting
SUMMARY
Authorities have confirmed the identities of the victims in a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday morning. The tragic incident claimed the lives of two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and two teachers, math instructors Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53. Aspinwall also served as the school's football team's assistant coach and defensive coordinator. The alleged gunman, 14-year-old Colt Gray, opened fire at around 10:30 a.m. with an AR-15-style weapon. Eight students and one teacher, identified as David Phenix, were also injured but are expected to survive. Gray, who had been on the FBI’s radar since 2023 for previous threats, was taken into custody and is expected to be charged as an adult. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp offered his condolences and pledged state support for the victims and the community. The investigation is ongoing as police search for a motive.
