Rep. Nancy Mace Defeats GOP Challenger Backed by McCarthy Allies

SUMMARY
Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina successfully defended her seat in a Republican primary against challenger Catherine Templeton. Mace's victory comes after a challenging period during which she joined other GOP members in removing former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. With nearly two-thirds of the vote counted, Mace secured 57% of the vote, surpassing Templeton's 30%. The Associated Press projected Mace as the winner, avoiding a runoff. Given the conservative nature of the district, Mace is expected to retain her seat in the fall and serve a third term in Congress.
