Suspected Tren de Aragua gang members in Aurora, Colorado released on $1,000 bond
SUMMARY
Two suspected members of the Tren de Aragua gang, Nixon and Dixon Azuaje-Perez, were released from custody on a $1,000 bond after being arrested in connection with a July 28th shooting in Aurora, Colorado. The Venezuelan aliens, who crossed the border illegally in 2023, were charged with evidence tampering. Despite Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requesting detainers for both men, Aurora authorities allowed their release. Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky criticized the decision, expressing concerns about how the police would monitor the suspects. The release has sparked debate, particularly because nearby Denver is a sanctuary city, meaning officials do not cooperate with ICE. Both men were previously apprehended by Border Patrol at Eagle Pass, Texas, last August, and were released into the U.S. awaiting court dates. Aurora PD has not yet confirmed plans for monitoring the suspects post-release.
