Texas track meet stabbing suspect’s lawyer plans to ask for $1M bond to be lowered: report

SUMMARY
On April 5, 2025, the lawyer for 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, charged with stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf to death at a Texas track meet, said he’s pushing to slash Anthony’s $1 million bond. The murder happened Wednesday, April 2, at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco during a District 11-5A track event. Anthony, a Frisco Centennial High School student-athlete, reportedly stabbed Metcalf, a Memorial High School junior, in the chest after a seating dispute under Memorial’s team tent. Cops say it kicked off around 10 a.m. when Metcalf told Anthony to move, and things got physical. Anthony’s attorney, Deric Walpole, hired Friday, told KXAS-TV he’s set to request a bond hearing next week, citing Anthony’s 'self-defense' claim. Arrest docs show Anthony told a school resource officer, “I was protecting myself,” after admitting, “I did it,” and claiming Metcalf “put his hands on” him. He’s been in Collin County Jail since, charged with first-degree murder.
