Venezuelan forces surround embassy sheltering opposition figures
SUMMARY
Maduro's Venezuelan security forces have surrounded the Argentine embassy in Caracas, where six opposition figures are seeking refuge. The opposition members, who have been inside the embassy for months, claim they are under siege by President Nicolás Maduro’s totalitarian socialist regime. Venezuelan intelligence officers have cordoned off the area and cut off electricity to the building. The embassy, under Brazilian custody since Argentina severed diplomatic relations with Venezuela over disputed election results, is now at risk after Venezuela revoked Brazil's representation. The opposition says their candidate, Edmundo González, won the presidential election, while Maduro’s allies, like Russia and China, have backed his re-election. Argentina’s foreign ministry plans to request arrest warrants for Maduro through the International Criminal Court. Meanwhile, Argentina remains determined to protect its embassy from interference.
