World War II veterans take off for France for 80th anniversary of D-Day
SUMMARY
More than 60 World War II veterans, aged 96 to 107, departed from Dallas to France on Friday to participate in ceremonies commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. American Airlines is flying them to Paris as part of several flights arranged for veterans attending the event. The group includes six Medal of Honor recipients from the Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam wars, who are joining to honor the WWII veterans. Additionally, two Rosie the Riveters, representing the women who worked in factories and shipyards during the war, are also part of the traveling contingent.
