Report: Suspects in New Year’s Day Attacks Served at Same Military Base
SUMMARY
Matthew Livelsberger and Shamsud-Din Jabbar, suspects in separate New Year’s Day attacks in Las Vegas and New Orleans, reportedly served at the same military base during their Army careers. Livelsberger, a former Green Beret and active U.S. Army Remote and Autonomous Systems Manager, detonated a Cybertruck packed with firework mortars and gas cans at Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, injuring seven and killing himself. Jabbar, a veteran with ties to extremist ideologies, used a rented truck to plow through a crowd in the French Quarter, killing 15 and injuring dozens. Both attacks are under investigation, with the Las Vegas bombing labeled a “possible act of terror” and the New Orleans incident classified as terrorism. FBI agents revealed that Jabbar carried an ISIS flag, and weapons and IEDs were discovered in his vehicle and nearby. Investigators are scrutinizing the suspects’ overlapping military service and any shared connections to extremist groups.
