Trump says he’ll determine Paxton-Cornyn endorsement ‘at the right time’

SUMMARY
President Trump kept his cards close aboard Air Force One when quizzed by The Hill about the brewing Texas Senate GOP primary clash for 2026. Sen. John Cornyn, in the seat since 2002, faces off against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Trump’s not rushing to pick a side. “They’re both friends of mine. They’re both good men,” he said, adding, “I don’t know. We don’t know who else is running, but these two—Ken, John—they’re both friends of mine. So I’ll make a determination at the right time.” Cornyn, a Senate leadership vet, racked up support by April 12 from big names like Majority Leader John Thune, NRSC Chair Tim Scott, and Sens. Rick Scott, John Barrasso, Steve Daines, Bill Hagerty, Tim Sheehy, and Pete Ricketts. Paxton, tight with Trump and Gov. Greg Abbott, jumped in on April 8, announcing on Fox News he’d fight for Trump’s agenda. He’s got Reps. Lance Gooden and Troy Nehls in his corner. With Paxton’s MAGA cred and Cornyn’s establishment clout, this primary’s a powder keg.
