Fani Willis ordered to give watchdog all communications with special counsel Jack Smith
SUMMARY
A Georgia judge ordered Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to release records of her communications with Special Counsel Jack Smith and the U.S. House January 6 Committee, following a lawsuit by Judicial Watch. The lawsuit, filed under Georgia’s Open Records Act (ORA), alleged Willis failed to respond to requests for records. The judge determined Willis violated the ORA by not producing documents or notifying Judicial Watch of any withheld records. Willis was also ordered to pay Judicial Watch’s attorney fees. The case stems from allegations that Willis coordinated with federal authorities and the January 6 Committee in her prosecution of Donald Trump and others for challenging Georgia's 2020 election results. While Trump and his co-defendants have appealed aspects of the case, it remains active. A hearing on Willis’s attorney fees is set for December 20, as Judicial Watch anticipates further revelations about her communications.
