Internet personality Andrew Tate ordered to be put under house arrest
SUMMARY
A Romanian court has placed internet personality Andrew Tate under house arrest following his detention in an investigation into human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Tate, a former kickboxer, and his brother Tristan were among six people detained by Romania's anti-organized crime unit, DIICOT. Initially, DIICOT sought a 30-day arrest for the brothers, but the judge opted for house arrest for Andrew and judiciary control for Tristan. Their representative, Mateea Petrescu, stated that the Tates "firmly deny all allegations," describing them as "baseless and unsupported by substantial evidence." Tate had previously been indicted in mid-2023 for human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to exploit women, charges he denies. DIICOT accuses him and others of exploiting victims through the "loverboy" method for substantial financial gain.
