Maui wildfire victims reach $4 billion settlement resolving hundreds of lawsuits

Josh Green, comes nearly one year after the fires that claimed 101 lives and razed the historic town of Lahaina. The lawsuits involved the state of Hawaii, Maui County, Hawaiian Electric, and several other entities. Hawaiian Electric's share of the settlement is nearly $2 billion. The settlement, reached after months of mediation, aims to expedite compensation to those affected. However, attorneys acknowledged that the financial compensation cannot fully restore what was lost. The wildfires, which displaced 12,000 people and destroyed thousands of homes.
