RFK Jr accuses DNC of ‘lawfare’ after being denied place on New York ballot
SUMMARY
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused the Democratic National Committee (DNC) of “lawfare” after a New York judge ruled he couldn’t be on the state’s ballot for the 2024 presidential election. Judge Christina Ryba decided that Kennedy used a “sham” address to register to vote, which didn’t meet New York’s residency requirements. The challenge was brought by the Democratic-aligned group Clear Choice Action. Kennedy condemned the ruling as politically motivated, claiming the DNC is attempting to block voter choice due to fears of losing at the ballot box. He vowed to appeal, insisting that his life has been based in New York since 1964. The Kennedy campaign also argued that the 12th Amendment, not state law, should govern the residency of presidential candidates and plans to seek injunctive relief in federal court. Despite the setback, Kennedy’s campaign announced they have secured ballot access in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
