15 Islamic State group fighters dead, at least 6 U.S. soldiers injured in raid on terror group in Iraq
SUMMARY
A U.S. military operation in Iraq on Thursday resulted in the deaths of at least 15 Islamic State fighters and injuries to at least six U.S. soldiers, according to three U.S. defense officials. The raid took place in Anbar, western Iraq, targeting ISIS leaders to disrupt their ability to carry out attacks against Iraqi civilians and U.S. interests. The injuries to U.S. soldiers included possible traumatic brain injuries and at least one external injury, but none were life-threatening. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the operation was conducted in partnership with Iraqi security forces. The targeted ISIS militants were heavily armed with various weapons, grenades, and explosive suicide belts. There were no reports of civilian casualties, and Iraqi forces are continuing to exploit the raided locations for further intelligence and action.
