Greek Orthodox Church Archbishop: Trump’s Election ‘Positive Development,’ ‘I Commend Him and Believe He Is Benefitting the World’

SUMMARY
Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens, leader of Greece’s Orthodox Church said that Trump’s 2024 election win was a “positive development.” Overseeing 100 bishops, 8,500 priests, and 15 million members, he said, “I commend him and believe he is benefiting the world.” Speaking April 9, he praised Trump’s economic and cultural moves—like rejecting transgender policies—but urged caution to avoid war, noting, “We need change…reforms he is trying to implement, but…we must focus on the younger generations.” On gender, he added, “Trump’s victory came and…he made it clear that there are only two genders,” aligning with Greek views against same-sex marriage. He warned, “If things go wrong, we might return to harsh times.” Trump, surviving two 2024 assassination attempts, said at the February 2025 National Prayer Breakfast, “I believed in God, but I feel much more strongly about it.” Ieronymos noted a youth faith surge, saying, “Young people today have a wider horizon…searching for something more.”
