Secret Service outlines security perimeter for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago
SUMMARY
As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) approaches, Chicago officials and the Secret Service have detailed a robust security plan for the event, running from August 19th to 22nd at the United Center and McCormick Place. In light of recent threats, including an attempted assassination of Trump, extensive measures will be enforced, including restricted zones and road closures. Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling assured that while First Amendment rights will be protected, vandalism will not be tolerated. The security setup includes a Vehicle Screening Perimeter, where vehicles must pass through screening, and a Pedestrian Restricted Perimeter, accessible only with credentials and fenced off. Final training exercises are planned, and outreach to local businesses and residents has been conducted to ensure minimal disruption and safety.
