A majority of Americans—54 percent—believe the action was wrong, undermining Biden’s prior assurances of no special treatment for his son. The fallout includes growing skepticism about government trust, with 60 percent of respondents stating the decision harms confidence in political leaders. Notably, 79 percent of Republicans and 52 percent of Democrats opposed the pardon.
