Capitol Police arrest man accused of assaulting Nancy Mace
SUMMARY
The Capitol Police arrested James McIntyre, a 33-year-old Illinois man, for allegedly assaulting Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) in the Rayburn House Office Building. The incident reportedly occurred during a Foster Youth Caucus event where Mace, a co-chair, was speaking. Capitol Police, alongside the Threat Assessment Section, identified and detained McIntyre after an investigative interview. Mace, who attributed the attack to her recent advocacy for transgender bathroom bans, sustained injuries to her wrist and arm. She shared updates on social media, stating, "One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it'll heal just fine." Authorities confirmed McIntyre entered the building lawfully through security screening. He now faces charges of assaulting a government official. Efforts to reach McIntyre for comment were unsuccessful.
