SUMMARY
Richard Grenell called out Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for paying fire recovery chief Steve Soboroff $500,000 over three months, funded by charity groups. Soboroff, a former L.A. police commissioner and real estate executive, was appointed to lead recovery efforts after devastating fires destroyed homes, businesses, and claimed at least 29 lives. Grenell took to X saying; "He’s getting paid $500,000 for 3 months of work? And they call this a charity. Gross. Offensive——It’s a good thing there will be strings on the Federal money for California." He pointed out that he and many others were working without pay. Real estate developer Randy Johnson will also get $250,000 for his role. Grenell's comments come as California Governor Gavin Newsom sought federal aid after passing bills approving $50 million to counter Trump’s policies. Soboroff has said he's open to collaborating with the Trump administration on the rebuilding effort.
