Kristi Noem Flips Script On Corporate Media After NBC Host Asks Her If Legal Immigrants Should Worry
SUMMARY
During an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem slammed corporate media for fostering unnecessary fears among legal immigrants. When NBC host Kristen Welker asked if legal immigrants should worry about wrongful detention, Noem responded, "I would say that if I’ve heard that expressed by people that are legal citizens of the United States, it’s because the media has stoked that fear. The media has said that that’s a possibility." She said that neither President Trump or law enforcement has suggested such concerns are warranted. Noem pointed to public support for the administration's immigration policies; "The citizens of the United States are confident that finally, after four long years of having a president in the White House that ignored federal law and endangered their communities, there’s a different man in charge now." Recent polls show 66% of Americans supporting the deportation of aliens, including 93% of Republicans and 67% of independents.
