Majority of voters believe Trump will pardon Jan. 6 defendants: Poll
SUMMARY
A new Politico/Morning Consult poll reveals that a majority of U.S. voters believe President-elect Donald Trump is likely to pardon defendants convicted for their involvement in January 6th events. Forty percent of registered voters said pardons are "very likely," and 29 percent said they are "somewhat likely." Only 15 percent of respondents thought such pardons were unlikely. During his campaign, Trump pledged to "rapidly review" cases of what he called “political prisoners” and issue pardons on his first day in office. He has often referred to January 6 participants as “warriors” and victims of a “rigged election.” Since January 6th, 2021, over 1,500 people have been charged, and 640 have been sentenced. The poll was conducted among 4,012 registered voters from November 20-22, with a margin of error of ±2 percentage points.
