Multiple Trump appointees targeted by bomb threats, swatting
SUMMARY
President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team reported that nearly a dozen Cabinet nominees and appointees, including Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), faced violent threats such as bomb scares and swatting incidents earlier this week. Transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed the incidents occurred Tuesday and Wednesday, calling them “violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them.” Law enforcement responded quickly to ensure the safety of those targeted. Stefanik, Trump’s nominee for U.N. ambassador, said her residence was threatened while she traveled with her husband. “New York State, County law enforcement, and U.S. Capitol Police responded immediately with the highest levels of professionalism,” her office stated. Local law enforcement visited the homes of affected nominees. Leavitt reiterated the transition team’s commitment to “uniting our nation by ensuring a safe and prosperous future."
