Musk's X suspended in Brazil after ruling by judge
SUMMARY
A Brazilian Supreme Court judge, Alexandre de Moraes, has mandated the "immediate and complete suspension" of Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) in Brazil. Moraes stated that X will remain banned until it complies with all court orders and pays outstanding fines. The platform must name a new legal representative within 24 hours or face suspension, with a deadline set for Thursday evening. Additionally, Moraes has given Apple and Google a five-day deadline to remove X from their app stores. Users attempting to access X via VPNs could face fines of R$50,000 (£6.7k). The dispute, which began in April with Moraes ordering the suspension of several X accounts for spreading what he deemed as 'disinformation', escalated when X closed its Brazilian office and faced threats of arrest against its representative. Elon Musk has criticized Moraes, calling him a "tyrant" and "dictator."
