NC court rules UNC digital IDs not valid at the polls
SUMMARY
The North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled on Friday that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s mobile One Card cannot be used as valid voter identification at the polls, overturning a lower court's decision. The court sided with the Republican National Committee and the N.C. Republican Party, who argued that digital IDs could increase the risk of ineligible voters casting ballots and violate state laws prohibiting mobile device use during voting. Democratic National Committee attorneys expressed concern that this decision could confuse or disenfranchise up to 40,000 students and staff at UNC with the election approaching. North Carolina, a critical battleground state, currently shows former President Trump with a narrow 0.6% lead. The ruling may be appealed at the federal level.
