North Carolina pulls 747,000 people off of voter registration rolls
SUMMARY
The North Carolina State Board of Elections has removed over 747,000 individuals from the state's voter rolls, just weeks ahead of the upcoming election. According to a press release, the purge, conducted over the past 20 months, targeted ineligible voters based on three key factors: deceased individuals, duplicate registrations due to moving within the state, and voters labeled as inactive after missing two federal elections. This action comes amidst ongoing legal battles. In August, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the North Carolina Republican Party filed lawsuits against the NCSBE, claiming the board failed to properly maintain voter rolls, especially in identifying non-citizens through jury questionnaires. Michael Whatley, RNC Chairman, criticized the board for jeopardizing election integrity, stating, “Deliberately failing to follow the law, right before our country’s most important election, is inexcusable.”
