Paul Pelosi attacker gets life in prison without parole
SUMMARY
David DePape, convicted of attacking Paul Pelosi with a hammer in the Pelosis' San Francisco home, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole on California state charges, in addition to a 30-year federal sentence to be served concurrently. DePape was found guilty of kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and false imprisonment of an elder. The brutal attack left Paul Pelosi, 84, with a fractured skull and other serious injuries. During sentencing, Judge Harry Dorfman rejected pleas for leniency, citing sympathy for the victim over the attacker. The incident, recorded on police body cameras, showed DePape assaulting Pelosi despite officers' attempts to defuse the situation. DePape admitted he planned to harm Nancy Pelosi if she refused his demands. The Pelosi family expressed relief that justice was served, condemning political violence. DePape’s lawyer has stated an intention to appeal the life sentence.
