Pennsylvania Democrats sue Erie County over mail-in ballot delays
SUMMARY
The Pennsylvania Democratic Party has filed a lawsuit against Erie County, claiming that 10,000 to 20,000 voters have not received their requested mail-in ballots ahead of Election Day. This situation has resulted in a return rate that is 15 percentage points lower than the state's average. The lawsuit seeks court intervention to ensure affected voters can still cast valid ballots and requests a list of those impacted. Over 500 voters reported issues with their mail-in ballots, either receiving incorrect ballots or none at all, attributed to an address system failure by an outside vendor. The Erie County Board of Elections acknowledged the problem and urged voters who requested ballots before the deadline to cancel and reapply for new ones by November 4. Pennsylvania is a crucial battleground state, with former President Trump currently leading Vice President Harris by 0.8 percentage points in polls.
