Steve Bannon’s trial for border wall fraud is postponed to Feb. 25
SUMMARY
Steve Bannon’s trial on state charges related to a border wall charity has been delayed until February 25, 2025. The postponement was granted by Justice April Newbauer to allow Bannon’s defense team additional time to prepare after prosecutors were allowed to introduce new evidence. The trial was originally scheduled to begin December 9, 2024, but the delay provides Bannon a reprieve between his recent release from a four-month federal prison sentence for contempt of Congress, which ended on October 29. Bannon, who was charged by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, is accused of allegedly orchestrating a scheme to 'defraud' donors to the “We Build the Wall” initiative, which raised funds for the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. While Bannon was pardoned by then-President Trump in January 2021 for federal charges related to the same case, state charges remain unaffected by presidential pardons, making this trial a separate legal matter.
