Trump names agent Sean Curran as Secret Service director
SUMMARY
President Donald Trump has appointed Sean Curran as the new director of the U.S. Secret Service, a position he fills after a distinguished career protecting Trump, including during a 2024 assassination attempt. Curran, a seasoned agent who joined the Secret Service in 2001, has a history of leadership, notably serving as assistant special agent in charge of the Presidential Protective Division during Trump’s first term. Trump praised Curran as a "great patriot" and lauded his courage for saving Trump's life during the Butler, Pennsylvania rally shooting last July. The appointment follows heightened scrutiny of the Secret Service after multiple security incidents, including a bullet grazing Trump at the rally and a separate threat at Trump's Florida golf club. Former Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned shortly after the Butler shooting. Trump expressed full confidence in Curran’s ability to strengthen the agency’s operations and security.
