Trump to Meet Privately with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong
SUMMARY
President-elect Donald Trump is meeting with Brian Armstrong, the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, on Monday, sources familiar with the matter say. The two are expected to discuss personnel appointments for Trump's second administration. This marks the first meeting between Trump and Armstrong since Election Day, as Trump continues to fill out his cabinet and senior posts. Once a crypto skeptic, Trump has become a vocal supporter of the cryptocurrency industry. Earlier this year, Trump announced plans to create a Bitcoin and crypto presidential advisory council to provide clear regulatory guidance if he won the election. Armstrong has already publicly endorsed Hester Peirce, a current Trump-appointed SEC commissioner, as the ideal candidate to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission. Ahead of the election, Coinbase contributed over $100 million to political action committees, including more than $40 million to Fairshake, a crypto-backed PAC focusing on congressional races.
