UnitedHealthcare CEO shot dead outside Manhattan Hilton hotel in ‘targeted attack’
SUMMARY
UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was fatally shot Wednesday morning in a targeted attack outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan. Police say a masked suspect, described as a white male in a cream-colored jacket and black face mask, fired multiple shots at Thompson around 6:46 a.m. before fleeing east on 6th Avenue on a bicycle. Thompson was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. The suspect, who had reportedly been seen loitering near the hotel before the shooting, escaped through the Ziegfeld alleyway. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Thompson, a 20-year veteran of UnitedHealth, became CEO in 2021 and previously led its Medicare and Retirement programs. He was in New York for an early conference at the Hilton.
